BATty, the Manchester terriër.

BATty kwam vrij onverwacht ons huis binnen.
Ik stond al een aantal jaar op de lijst voor een Parson Russel terrier, ik wou namelijk een kleiner hondje erbij naast de drie mechelaren die nu nog hadden. Eindelijk werd het nestje geboren waar ik op wachtte van een agility hond die ik kende, maar het was maar één pupje. Voor mij zat er niks bij. Ik ging dus op zoek naar een Parson . Via mijn vrienden op facebook informeerde ik en kwam ik steeds meer te weten of zijn gedrag, nog meer als ik al eerder wist en vooral het feit dat de hond juist van nature uit luid moest blaffen beviel me steeds minder. Ze zouden hard moeten zijn en onverbiddelijk doorgaan met de aanval op een vos of iets dergelijks. Dit leek met toch niet zo een goed idee met de Mechel meiden is huis. Ik heb namelijk nog drie Mechelse herder teefjes en nog een extreem exemplaar erbij in het klein, nou dat was misschien wat heftig.
Ineens kwam op de Facebook pagina van een Tsjechische vriendin een vreselijke schattige foto. Wat is dat!??? Dit pupje zocht een huisje, ze was geannuleerd door een Italiaanse koper en mocht volgende week het nest verlaten. Ik ben meteen gaan uitzoeken wat de eigenschappen van een manchester terriër zijn, via Google en via vrienden op FB weer nieuwe MT vrienden gevonden die meer konden vertellen over het ras en ook de bloedlijnen kenden van de ouders, allemaal gaven groen licht voor dit pupje. Ik zag video’s van haar moeder en oom in de agility en was verkocht. Ik maakte contact met Veronica Tobolkova, haar fokker en we PB over en weer in gebrekkig Engels. Ik zocht op internet de gezondheids eisen en onderzoeken en verzekerde mezelf dat het met de FCI papieren goed zat . Deze FCI erkenning is nodig als ik later met haar in de agility op een Wereld Kampioenschap wil uitkomen. De laatste horde moest nog genomen worden, speelt ze? Apporteert ze? Dus Veronika maakte een video van de 4 pups tijdens spel, en dat ze een sok weg gooide en de pups er samen achterna gingen en terug brachten, ze deed sjor spelletjes voor me met het pupje en ik was helemaal verkocht. Ik kom haar halen zei ik en drie dagen later zaten we in de camper richting Tsjechië. ( 1000 km enkele reis)
Ik was nog op tijd om het hele nestje te zien en ik vond ze geweldig, moeder was sociaal en open, oma was er ook bij en zij lag heerlijk op mijn schoot te snurken. Terug naar huis met een inie mini hondje, sneeuwstormen onderweg trotserend was het al duidelijk dat we gauw een jas moesten kopen voor haar onderweg langs de snelweg. Inmiddels heeft ze er meer als ikzelf.
Ze heeft ons hart gestolen.
Ik ben haar gaan trainen als een mechelaar, Ik ga agility met haar doen. Dus veel puppie spelen, balance oefeningen en korte denk spelletjes, zij heeft haar aanpassingen. Je hebt toch dat terriër trekje, af en toe kijkt ze je aan en dan mag je het mooi zelf doen. Ik weet haar er altijd wel weer van te overtuigen dat ze uiteindelijk toch doet wat ik van haar wil en ze dan denkt dat ze het zelf verzonnen heeft. Je moet een terrier toch wat foppen heb ik geleerd. Ze doen het niet voor jou, ze doen het zoor zichzelf. Het is een klein hondje, daarin verschilt ze dus van de mechelaren, ze blijft dichter bij je werken en van je af sturen kost meer tijd om aan te leren. Ze is met running contacts bezig in de agility en het sturen gaat al enorm leuk en snel.
Ik beleef elke dag als een avontuur, ze steelt ieders hart, is al een beroemdheid op het agility veld, ze is een diva, ze is niet keihard, ze is gevoelig maar kan ook heel stoer zijn. Ik vind het fijn dat als ik aan geef dat iets echt niet kan ze dat accepteert. Dit gedrag voorkomt dat ze in grote problemen komt met de Mechel meiden. Als één van hun aangeeft dat ze te ver gaat luistert ze ook en gaat ze niet over hun grenzen heen. Dit is wel nodig, ze is immers kleiner. Nu een 7 kilo en 37 cm hoog en ingeschreven voor haar eerste show in Eindhoven, ik ben benieuwd welke avonturen we met haar gaan meemaken.

Batty came rather unexpectedly in our House.
I was on the list for a number of years for a Parson Russel terriër, I wanted a smaller dog in addition to the three Malinois that we have. The litter was finally born of an agility dog I knew, but it was only one puppy. There was none for me. So I went looking for a Parson. My friends on facebook informed me and I came to know more and more of his behavior, even more as I previously knew and especially the fact that the dog had to bark out loud just naturally pleased me less and less. They would have to be hard and inexorably proceed with the attack on a Fox or something like that. This seemed to me not so a good idea with the Mali girls her at home. I already have three Belgian Malinois females and another copy of that in a small size, well that was maybe too much.
All of a sudden on the Facebook page of a Czech girlfriend an awfully cute picture was posted. What is that!??? This puppy was looking for a home, she was cancelled by an Italian buyer and would next week leave the nest. I immediately started to find out more about the Manchester Terrier, through Google and through friends on FB I found more new MT friends that could tell about the breed and also the blood lines and they knew the parents, all gave green light for this puppy. I saw videos of her mother and uncle in the agility and was sold. I made contact with Veronica, her breeder and we talked over and over again in poor English. I searched on the internet about the health requirements and assured myself about the FCI papers. This FCI recognition is necessary if later with her we would manage a World Championship. The final hurdle was yet to be taken, does she plays with her owner? Retrieve a toy? So Veronika made a video of the 4 pups during play time, and that they are playing with a sock she threw away. Together the pups went and brought it back, she did tug games for me with the puppy and I was completely sold. I’ll come and get her I said and three days later we were in the camper direction Czech Republic. (1000 km one way)
I was still on time to see the whole litter and I found them to be great, mother was open and social, grandma was there too and she lay on my lap and slepte. Driving back home with a mini dog, snow storms on the way-defying it was already clear that we had to buy a coat for her soon on the road along the highway. Meanwhile, she has more coats than I do.
She has stolen our hearts.
I am going to train as a Malinois, I’m going to do agility with her. So we did many puppy play times, balance exercises and short think games, she has her adjustments. You have that terriër caracter, occasionally she looks smug at you and then you can do it yourself. I know its my job to convince her to always eventually do what I want and let her think that its her idea. I have a terrier. They don’t do it for you, they do it to please themselfs. It is a small dog, this so differs from the malinois, she remains closer to you to work and send away takes more time to learn. She is learning running contacts in agility and it is fun and fast.
I experience every day as an adventure, she steals everyone’s hearts, she is already a celebrity on the agility field, she is a diva, she is not rock hard, she is sensitive but can also be very tough. I like that if I tell her somethins is really not ok, she can accept that. This behavior prevents her from getting in big trouble , with the Mali girls. If one of them indicates that she has gone too far, she listens and accepts it. This is really necessary, she is so much smaller. Now she is 7 kilo and 37 cm high and enrolled in her first show in Eindhoven, I’m curious what adventures we experience with her.
